Capabilities / Process

Description

Imports data from a single file or all files within a directory.
For example, if you import 1,000 files, and each file contains 10 lines of data, then the resulting spreadsheet will contain 1,000 rows by 10 columns of data. Each row will represent a single file and each of the 10 columns will represent a line item of data imported from the individual files.

Exports each row of data within a spreadsheet to individual files.
For example, if your spreadsheet contains 1,000 rows by 10 columns of data, then each row of data will be exported to a newly created file for a total of 1,000 files. Each column of data in the spreadsheet represents a single line item of data. Therefore, each of the 1,000 files will contain 10 lines of data.

The maximum number of files you can import from or export to is only limited by the number of rows and columns in a spreadsheet. For example, in Excel versions 2000 through 2003, a single spreadsheet is limited to 65,536 rows by 256 columns. Since the first row and column in a spreadsheet is reserved for the File and Data Field names, you can import / export up to a maximum of 65,535 files with each file containing up to 255 lines of data.

Sample Data
This program contains some sample data to help you understand the Import / Export process. This sample data can also be used for experimental purposes so that you can get familiar program.

The sample data is located in the folder named "Samples". This Sample folder contains two Excel spreadsheets. There are also two additional file folders located in the "\Import Files\Sample Files" folder named HTML Files and Text Files. Each of these folders contains 100 files. The HTML Files folder contains HTML files (.html) and the Text Files folder contains text files (.txt). Below is an explanation of the samples provided.

    Imported Sample Data
    File name: 100 items (text).xls
This sample Import spreadsheet was created using the Multiple Files Import routine. All 100 files within the "\Import Files\Samples\Text Files" folder were imported into this spreadsheet.

Note: This sheet can also be exported to create 100 text files.

    Export Sample Data
    File name: 100 items (html).xls
This is a sample Export sheet containing HTML code for 100 files. The data within this sheet was exported to create the 100 HTML files located within the "\Import Files\Sample Files\HTML Files" folder.

Note: This sheet can also be recreated by importing the same HTML files within the "\Import Files\Sample Files\HTML Files" folder.
